Solid Oak, silver scale material left right on the bait, screw eyes (fine for solid oak). This bait was the first Shallow Hal I made. It has caught around 7 muskies and countless pike. With all the hardware and hooks it suspends perfectly. Yeah! No drill holes and messing around with ballist.

This series was tested with 35lbs of weight dangling off of the hooks and then pulling and shaking. Screweyes in solid oak are very strong. A futher test is to soak the bait overnight in the sink and do the same test in the morning to mimic a situation on the water. Make sure to epoxy inside the small drill holes before putting in the screws (an absolute must).

The first 2 were created with vinyl adhesive designs cut out with a hole punch in the one bait, and an exacto knife on the other for straight lines.

Single blob of paint dropped on, then spread out from centre using small piece of wire to create star look

Same idea. Small dab of paint and then use wire to draw out the paint to the sides and then down. Here the purple paint was dropped onto a fresh epoxy coat that was still wet. The paint then suspends in the epoxy to create a wispy effect.

The red pattern is actually material from an orange box. I epoxied it right on. It did not affect the movement of the bait. Caught a 42" tiger musky on this. Notice the lip slot goes a bit too deep. Sure enough, the nose broke off right at this weak spot on this bait after a few months. Smaller screweyes from Rollie and Helens. Luremaking.com screweyes are superior and larger.

Black scale material epoxied right onto bait. I used a jigsaw to cut out the lip slot.
